Guts, glory,
rock, sand, sun, rain, and attitude.Moab Easter Jeep Safari 1998 reigned supreme. The power of
slickrock and red sandstone proved the undoing of many wheelers and
the hero of many soul searchers. Those that advanced on Moab with
their 4x4s could feel the awesome intensity in the air.Every morning, trailheads were converged upon by
rigs of various capabilities. Some of these rigs had so many
modifications it became a test to figure out which body part and
which suspension part came from what make of vehicle. Many of them
were self-fabricated, often ingeniously. Some headed back to the
drawing board with the aid of a towstrap. Duck tape and bailing
wire seemed to be found in most toolboxes.Besides the usual breakdowns of blown U-joints, busted
drivelines and popped beads, were the occasional rollovers. Potato
Salad Hill saw it's share. So did Double Whammy on theGolden Spiketrail.Brian Riggs, a guest
corresponent, wrote a fun report on his Moab experience.
