Overview

Less than a month after the checkered flag fell on the 1999 Score San Felipe 250, the guys at Shoemaker Productions are bringing the event into your livingroom, just in case you couldn't make it down the peninsula, or missed the original broadcast on Speedvision. Even if you did happen to catch it the first time around, the 1999 San Felipe 250 video is an excellent addition to your growing off-road video collection. Why? Glad you asked!

There are some things that never get old. Watching Ed and Tim Herbst fly across Laguna Diablo at well over 125 mph, kicking up a dust trail that looks deceptively similar to the contrail of a jet fighter; Dale White & Brian Collins outpacing many unlimited buggies and Trophy Trucks in a steel production bodied Class 8 Chevy; Ryan Arcerio bringing the Chenowth / Toyota "Millenium" to ever greater heights and higher finishes.; the list goes on and on.

What does get old however, is struggling through the recent influx of sub-par off-road videos. Spending your hard earned denero on a video that gets watched once and relegated to the circular file, never to be seen again is no ones idea of a good time. Fortunately Shoemaker has yet to produce such an animal, and the San Felipe 250 video is among their best productions to date.

Highlights

Off road racing legend Ivan "Ironman" Stewart is back in the broadcast booth, along with Multi time Baja / Motorcycle champ, and pilot of the Team MacPherson Trophy Truck, Larry Roseler. Together, they bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the color commentary, making the what's and whys of desert racing understandable to even the greenest desert enthusiast.

The combination of in car cameras in such diverse vehicles as Herbst Motorsports"Truggy" and Trophy Truck, Gus Vildosola's Class 1 buggy, and the Lucas Oil - Class 7s truck give the viewer a perspective of the wildly performance capabilities ...to say nothing of some adrenaline inducing visuals!

Professional camerawork from both ground level and high above thanks to the helicopter crew show the trucks, buggies, and scenery to their best effect.

Editing that makes sense, is done professionally, and results in a chronicle of the event, rather than a "collection of shots".

Inside the industry looks at the Lucas Oil team, products, and company, along with a suspension installation from Fabtech Motorsports.

Pre and post race interviews with 1998 Class 1/2-1600 champ Bekii Freeman, Terrible Herbst Motorsports, Dale White / Brian Collins and more.

Overall

Working in conjunction with Speedvision, Shoemaker Productions is bringing off-road racing to an audience that the networks and "big" sports channels like ESPN have abandoned - IE, Us. Thanks to their efforts, and to the racers who make it all possible, off-road racing is experiencing an explosion in growth and popularity. When you consider the quality of a production like the 99 San Felipe 250, it's not very hard to see why. Seen any good videos lately? I'd like to recommend one.........
