General OverviewPicture a 700+ horse[ower Jeep / buggy. Now picture
it equipped with a couple feet of suspension travel. Add to the mix
an overabundance of roll cage. Still with me? Good. Mount up 4 -33
in. paddle tires, and take the 4x4 from hell across 4 ft. deep
ponds, up 85 deg. inclines, and finially rocket it up and over,
clearing about 20 feet of vertical air in the process. Pipe dream?
sniffing a bit too much nitrous? Nope, it's called "4x4 Formula
Off-Road", compliments of the good people of Iceland. No, I'm not kidding, and no matter what form of
off-roading you may prefer, this video is a must see. "F.O.R"
borrows a little technology / format from a vide variety of
off-road motorsports, and combines them into something more than
the sum of it's parts. The goal? Get from point "A" to point "B" as
fast as, and any way that you can! You quite literally have to see
it to believe it. The tape is broken down into several parts, with
intrim music provided by alterna-fave "Bijork". Well filmed,
"Cliffhangers" does away with a lot of jaw flappin', and gets right
to the point. "The point" being a whole lot of speed, airborne
antics, and enough rollovers to make it abundantly clear why the
rigs come equipped with radiator roll bars. This sport is
definately not for the timid. Highlights- Big air...REAL BIG air! How does about 20 ft.
grab you?
- Creative use of Very steep hills
- More rolling than a tire on an
interstate!
- Pond hopping
- Vehicular mud bathing
- the violent rending of steel &
fiberglass
- Pure driver determination
The Verdict - 5If you've ever caught 4x4 Formula Off-Road on Fox
Sports, you have a pretty good idea of what you're in for, but if
you havent, oh Nelly, are you in for a treat. After several
viewings, I passed the tape around to off-roading friends, racers,
and family. From 80+ yr old women, to little kids, to long time
desert vets, "Cliffhangers" was enjoyed by one & all. It's
intresting that the same 3 words kept popping up, regardless of who
was doing the viewing...."Oh my God!" That ought to tell you something.
