Pirates of the Rubicon
Vol. 1 Review

General Overview

"You Can't go Wrong"! It's the creed of the 4wd club "Pirates of the Rubicon", some of the hardest core 4 wheelers you're likely to ever come across on this, or any other side of the Sierrias. Actually the phrase pretty much sums up their attitude to the sport in general. They love it all, and it shows.

The Video, "Pirates of the Rubicon - Vol. 1, is literally a collection of "home movies" taken by the club on several of it's more ambitous outings. There are no "Coming attractions", sub titles, annoying background music, or anything else found in "professionally produced" video tapes, and POR-1 doesn't suffer for their loss.

What you do get are outstanding camera angles, brutal "wheels in the air" action, crunched fenders, roll-overs, and all the extreme 4wheeling you could possibly want. Real people, real 4 wheeling, and a real good time.

Highlights

  • Great camera work. Vehicles shot for maximum effect.
  • Winter wonderland - POR takes you snow running on the Rubicon!
  • Toyota LCs, C's Wranglers, and Flat fenders pushed well beyond their limits in great wheeling action. Lots of extreme four wheeling, Pirate style!
  • Lance Clifford POR 1's chief narrator (and owner of a thoroughly awesome 'Cruiser, going around a Flatty in the Sluice is worth the price of admission alone.
  • Background music compliments of whatever CD is in the rig passing by at the time. Cool tunes from memory lane!
  • Features Rubicon, Fordice Creek (Sierra Trek), Barrett Lake
  • .Two words. Pirate inniation. Be afraid. Be VERY afraid!

The Verdict - 5+

Warning. This video is not for every one. The tape comes with an explicit warning about the use of adult language. There is also an easy solution offered. "Turn the volume off".

That said, POR Vol. 1 is a flat incredible 1hr+ romp through the world's most famous OHV trail. Having watched most of the "professionally" made videos out there, I can tell you that for action and excitement, the Pirates of the Rubicon could easily give the "pros" more than a few worthwhile lessons. If you are looking for the hardest of the hard core videos available, look no further. This is it.

But perhaps not for long. Lance Clifford informed us that POR Volume 2 is soon to be completed, and since the Pirates have been doing some serious upgrading to some already serious machinery, you can believe the result will be "impressive" to say the least.
